Guidance please - too much restriction?

I need some guidance please.

Ever since my last fill, I've wondered if I'm actually too restricted. Crazy. I've only had two fills.

Since fill number two, I'm very limited in what I can eat and definitely how fast I can eat. No bread, rice, pasta. No lettuce. Mornings are really tough to eat anything and I can even feel tightness if I drink a cold drink instead of coffee.

On the weeks when I've had my period, I can pretty much it mushie food, ice cream, soup.

Today for lunch, I had some deli turkey, cheddar cheese and a chocolate doughnut hole. I was feeling some tightness before the doughnut hole but then it seemed to go down ok. Then, I pb'd.

I'm making poorer food choices because I'm more limited in what I can eat.

I'm not really hungry but I think I'm snacking more because when I can actually eat something, I want to eat it.

I think I'm answering my own question but I'd love to get any thoughts. I go to the doctor on Oct. 27 and I think I'll ask for just a smidge out. I'm nervous that then I'll loose any restriction but I'll have to find out if/when I can come back in for more if I need it.

I think I'd do better if I could eat a reasonable diet and focus more on fullness rather than consumption.

Thanks for your help!

  1. Always, always, always ... when in doubt call the physician. They want to know what's going on with you and they want to help you make the best choices. It may be that a teensy adjustment is needed but please do call your physician or nurse and talk with them right away. There is always the chance that something else is going on. What feels one way to me as a fellow lapbander may feel totally different for you. Take care.

  2. It sounds like you are too tight. My doc warned me that if I was too tight, I would resort to not so good food & this is counter-productive. Good Luck!

  3. I wouldn't say that you are too off though. Some of the foods you mentioned as being no nos are ones that are often not tolerated. I would say since my last fill I definately had to slow down A LOT! That has helped.

  4. I think when you start eating "whatever you can get down" at the expense of the healthier choices that won't make it, you're too tight.

  5. The way I look at it is "when in doubt take some out". You can cause a lot of physical problems from being too tight from band slippage to errosion. Plus if you eat the wrong foods it doesn't do its best job on the weight loss either.

I have been too tight twice. Both times I probably could have kept going, but my doc didn't want me to struggle or hurt my band.

The first time I lost almost all my restriction. I was worried, but in the end it was a good thing. The few days of being too tight reminded me of a few rules and even though my restriction was gone it didn't seem as hard - for a while. The second time they pulled a little out I could eat, but I was getting reflux. She took twice as much out as she put in the few days before, but after a few days I was tight again (or at least tight enough). I have no idea why having less gave me more restriction than the week before, but it did.

All in all I don't regret either of my unfills. I had to rely a little on my own self control, but it wasn't bad. However, I have heard of people going a long time being too tight and then going crazy because they were finally being able to eat. That scares me enought to get unfilled pretty quickly :)

  6. I agree it sounds like you're too tight. When you're living off sliders just to be able to eat, you probably need a smidge out. I'd call your doctor...that's what he's there for.
